Spinning the 'Nation' - Khadi and Modern India
The Centre of Excellence for Khadi had the priviledge to receive Prof Lisa Trivedi, a cultural and social historian of modern South Asia and the author of ‘Clothing Gandhi’s Nation: Homespun and Modern India’. Presently, she is Professor of South Asian History at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York.
Her talk on 'Spinning the 'Nation': Khadi and Modern India' was attended by students, faculty and few specially invited guests. Our special guest was Smt Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, Chairperson of the National Gandhi Museum, a true Gandhian and an eminent leader and proponent of women empowerment. She spoke about her childhood and gave her perspective on khadi to the audience.

Khadi is a versatile fabric in terms of textures, weight and fabric content. Prime Minister has emphasised the role of khadi in transforming the nation through fashion for the youth. In our efforts to showcase the versatility of Khadi to a broader audience, the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) is showcasing design directions for khadi at the fourth edition of India Craft Week, a four-day event from 20th- 23rd October 2022, at NSIC Okhla.

CoEK presents Aavartan at Bengaluru
The event will feature home and clothing collections created by CoEK’s in-house designers for a cross-generational audience. The CoEK team has scheduled interactive workshops on khadi and its subtler subtleties for which students from Bengaluru’s design colleges have been invited on September 16.

Govt’s Centre of Excellence for Khadi to host two-day programme to promote Khadi
Khadi institutions have been invited to market their fabrics and sarees. Interactive sessions are planned on khadi and its finer nuances and students from the design colleges of Bengaluru have been invited to take part.

Values of mindfulness and perseverance become the core of a new range of wellness wear named Svadha. Designed by the Center of Excellence for Khadi — set up by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Ministry of MSME — the garments in this collection cater to the stretchability required during the meditation and workout sessions, to make yoga enthusiasts feel at ease.
