Eri Jackets specially crafted for the senior officials of the
Prime Minister's Office
Eri silk is a natural silk made from the cocoons of the Samia ricini silkworm and is known for being strong, breathable, and comfortable. Unlike most silks, the fiber is spun from open cocoons, which means the silkworm is not killed in the process. Scientifically, Eri silk has a porous fiber structure, giving it good thermal regulation, it keeps the body warm in cooler weather and allows airflow in warmer conditions. Studies show that its strength is comparable to mulberry silk, but it has higher elasticity, making fabrics more durable and less prone to tearing. Eri silk also absorbs moisture well, contributing to comfort during wear, and research confirms it has good thermal stability and long-lasting performance, making it suitable for both everyday textiles and specialized applications.

Eri silk’s hallmark is its cruelty-free nature, the silkworm completes its lifecycle before extraction. With growing global demand for ethical textiles, Eri silk as a Khadi product fits sustainability narratives, making it distinct from mass-produced silk.
Ahimsa Silk / अहिंसा सिल्क

Design Process | डिज़ाइन प्रक्रिया
The jackets integrate Indian aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship within a refined, formal silhouette. The design is inspired by the traditional kediyu of Gujarat, with embroidery thoughtfully placed along the armhole and the centre back. The jacket lining further enriches the garment, serving as an ode to traditional hand block printing and reinforcing the dialogue between heritage craft and contemporary tailoring.
Design Impact
| डिज़ाइन प्रभाव
A design that uses Eri silk as the base fabric for jackets creates a strong positive impact across ethical, environmental, social, and cultural dimensions. By employing ahimsa (peace silk) produced from open cocoons, it promotes cruelty-free practices while challenging conventional silk production. The use of Eri silk supports low-impact, biodegradable materials and encourages slow fashion through durable, thermally efficient garments that are comfortable across seasons.
