Bhal Nalkantha Khadi Gramodyog Mandal

Bhal Nalkantha Khadi Gramodyog Mandal is a Khadi institution located in Ranpur, Botad District of Gujarat, India. This center was established in 1958 by Ambubhai Shah, Harivallabhhai Mehta, Dajibhai Dabhi and Chaturbhai Patel with the blessings of Jain Muni Shri Santbalji who was engaged in the social work for unemployed women and the backward class of the society in Ranpur. He also believed in the concept of self-dependency and was spreading public awareness about it. He started social work with the focus of improving Indian village’s condition in terms of Education, Economy and Social status.

The center is involved with khadi development from the past 63 Years. They have been providing job opportunities for women in their area. They have been working with women of all communities in the area. Their day starts with a morning prayer which is attended by all workers.

This institution was started with the aim of women empowerment and empowering the backward class of the Bhal region of Gujarat. The institute worked for welfare of Mal community of Ranpur. The women of this community worked from home for the spinning as they were not allowed to go out for work

Knitted Products

The institution produces a wide range of knitted products using handspun Merino wool Khadi yarn. Items include sweaters, socks, mufflers, gloves, and a variety of caps, offered in vibrant colours, bold stripes, and mottled textures.

Merino Wool Twill Fabrics

A diverse range of merino wool twill fabrics is crafted for men’s jackets and waistcoats, featuring an array of checks and stripes. The collection includes fine pinstripes, houndstooth, bold checks, gingham checks, and other textured patterns, woven in twill and herringbone weaves for a refined yet classic look.

Shawls

The KI produces a wide range of woolen shawls for both men and women, available in various sizes and designs. Some shawls are plain-woven and later dyed in a spectrum of colors. The collection showcases woven designs featuring borders and motifs crafted in twill and dobby weaves.

Design Process

The designs are made as per the requirement and sample images given by the client for the
particular product. The designs are set by the supervisor of the weaving and knitting department.

Weaving

Weaving is carried out by women artisans on traditional throw-shuttle handlooms. The in-house setup includes 2 to 4-shaft looms, primarily used for weaving twill woolen fabrics and shawls.

Knitting

Khadi knitting is the institution’s core specialization. Women artisans operate manual flatbed and circular knitting machines. Sweaters and jersey panels are crafted on flatbed machines, while caps, mufflers, socks, and gloves are produced using circular knitting machines.

Stitching

The institution operates a small stitching unit equipped with a few sewing and interlocking machines, primarily used for stitching knitted garments such as sweaters, mojadis, caps, and jerseys.

Dyeing

The Khadi Institution has an in-house wool dyeing facility, which is capable of producing a limited range of colors.
