

Sarvodaya Samiti
This KI is situated in Kalahandi, Dharamgarh district of Odisha. Mr.Pradip Kumar Mahanty is the secretary of this KI and he has been engaged with social works with multiple NGOs for tribal welfare, through residential educational complex for tribal girls, Shakti Sadan for destitute and abandoned tribal women, etc. Through this KI he gets an opportunity to provide a sustainable means of living for tribal women.

Though they work with pure cotton Khadi, poly-vastra remains the core product of Sarvoday Samiti; and they sell yardages, shirts, dhotis (Jodo), angavastram, and gamchas in both poly and cotton blends.

They have around 50 spinners and spin cotton and poly cotton blends in 50s-55s count on their 8 spindle NMCs. They also have enrolled 12 weavers, and 4 salaried employees for their accounts and retail management.

Gamucha
The gamucha made at Sarvodaya Samiti are woven on 2 shaft looms, hence all the gamucha are made in plain weave and derivative of plain weaves.

Dhoti
Dhotis of Sarvodaya Samiti are made with undyed kora yarns such that they retain their beautiful looks. Since the Khadi institution is within the vicinity of the Kotpad clusters, they also showcase these designs in their dhotis.

Lungi
The Lungis made at Sarvodaya Samiti are made in various designs such as plain, checks and striped patterns.

Communities Engaged
Sarvodaya Samiti engages people of various communities within the vicinity of the Khadi institution. People from the SC/ST community of Kalahandi and Koraput Districts.

Human Resources
70 + people are engaged with the Khadi Institution on a regular basis. All the weavers are men and all of the spinners engaged are women. Women also help with all the steps involved for weaving.

Infrastructure
At present, Sarvodaya Samiti has more than 10 looms, 45+ NMC charkhas and has 2 retail stores

Weaving
There are only 2 shaft looms with a width of 48 inches, hence the weavers are able to manufacture plain weaves.

Raw Materials
Cotton slivers are sourced from Hazipur and Sehore. The procurement has been steady as the production is also a slow process.
