Wavilal Khadi Gramodyog Pratishthan

The institute has a long standing history of its credit. The work at Wavilal was started in 1929 by Annasaheb Sahasrabuddhe under the auspices of All India Spinners Association. Up to 1931 it was under the control of Maharashtra branch, later Hyderabad branch up to formation of Hyderabad Khadi Samiti. In 1951, Hyderabad Khadi Samiti was formed for the erstwhile Hyderabad state. It took over activities from Charkha Sangh. Hyderabad Khadi Samiti was decentralized, Wavilal Khadi Gramodyog Pratishthan was formed as a separate Institution for a part of Karimnagar district and entire districts of Warangal, Khammam, Krishna and Adiabad.

The institution got 1st prize in all over the country in the category of best spinner and best weaver 2005. And awarded the best institution in category in 2009.

Wavilal Khadi Gramodyog Pratishthan is well known for its quality. There are above 100 varieties in Cotton Khadi, Muslin Khadi and Polyvastra. The Coating, Color poly, Shirting and Star Carpets are famous for their quality. The Cotton coating, 150’s Muslin Khadi are special varieties of this institution. It has very good demand all over the country.

Since 1983, Wavilal Khadi Pratishthan's Chairman Sri K.C. Ramamurthy Garu and Secretary Sri G. Laxmikantha Rao Garu have provided leadership to the institution. With their continued guidance and supervision, the institution grew strong.

The institution was registered under the Societies Act and gained permanent status. In 2005, the administrative and technical offices and in 2009, the administrative buildings were constructed under the "Rural Industrial Cluster Scheme". The institution has successfully implemented multiple Khadi and Village Industry programs across 150 villages

Fabric Yardages

The Khadi Institution has 2 shaft looms which are capable of plain weaving technique, hence most of the yardages made at the KI consist of checks and stripes.

Bedsheets

The bedsheets made at the KI consist of two different thickness of yarns used while weaving, hence creating interesting textures on the product.

Carpets

The KI also makes carpets on the looms using thick yarns. These carpets are made in various colors, motifs and sizes for all applications.

Hand Spinning

The KI has 19 traditional charkhas and 475 New model charkhas. Parlapally, Kundanpally, Shayampet, Chellur, Gangipally and Gagillapur. In Mahadevpur traditional spinning is done. They mainly use cotton, silk and polyvastra. Silk spinning is done in Mahadevpur.

Dyeing

The KI uses colors like Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Purple and Blue. They also use space dyeing technique. At the moment there are 6 people working in the dyeing unit.

Weaving

The processing of weaving is done on many looms at the Khadi Institution. Some of the looms can be used to make complex designs too. There are many products being woven at the institution, like Fabric Yardages, Bedsheets, Table linen and much more.

Artisans

There are more than 100 weavers and 400 New Model Charkha spinners currently working with the KI. These artisans are spread across the 3 villages, they are called Challur, Jammikunta and Pachnur.

Mastery

The artisans of the KI can plain weave upto 7 metres a day, depending upon the mastery of the weaves the number can go even higher. The skill and experience of the weavers are the result of their hardwork being put in everyday to weave continuously.
