Taan Tarang
Song of the threads

Inspired by the iconic checks of the 1930s, the collection reimagines heritage patterns through a modern, timeless palette. While checks can take countless forms, these particular ones were chosen with deep intention, they recall a quiet yet powerful moment in Sandur’s history, when Mahatma Gandhi visited the region during that very decade. Developed for SKKK, the collection introduced an entirely new pattern and colour story for the KI, blending tradition with a fresh, contemporary edge.
Collection's Mood
The design process began with an in-depth study of 1930s checks, decoding their patterns, proportions, and underlying rhythms. Guided by the idea of the fluctuating line, this element was thoughtfully woven into both warps.

About Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra
Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra (SKKK) was founded in 1978 by Her Highness Smt. Susheela Devi Ghorpade and later nurtured by Smt. Vasundhara Raje Ghorpade.
What began as a small initiative with Lambani women in Susheelanagar grew into a dynamic movement for craft revival and community development.
Registered as a Society in 1988, SKKK gained Khadi Commission certification in 1991, enabling khadi production through handlooms and Ambar charakas. Today, it works with nearly 500 artisans, supporting livelihoods while preserving craft traditions and strengthening self-help groups across the region.
