Techniques

the Techniques section celebrates the artistry, skill, and innovation behind Khadi and handcrafted fabrics. From the delicate weave of Jamdani and the resist-dye traditions of Bandhani and Ikat, to the elegance of Aari embroidery and intricate surface embellishments, each technique reflects generations of craftsmanship and cultural storytelling. The portal also explores contemporary finishes and fabric treatments that enhance texture, durability, and design appeal while preserving authenticity. Bridging tradition with modern application, these techniques form the foundation of apparel, home, and lifestyle design across Khadi institutions. This knowledge hub serves as a resource to understand, preserve, and reimagine India’s diverse craft vocabulary for the future of sustainable and design-led textiles.

Did You Know?: Jamdani weaving is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, while Ikat patterns are created by dyeing yarns before weaving making every textile slightly unique and impossible to replicate exactly by machine.
